Effective October 6, 2014: the DEA changed the classification of all medications containing hydrocodone (Vicodin, Norco, Lortab, etc). They will now be classified as Schedule 2 Narcotics.
What does this mean for you?
- You will need a new prescription each month for your medication.
- There will be no refills allowed and the prescription cannot be called in or faxed to the pharmacy.
- Any current prescriptions with refills will became invalid on October 6th.
- Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants will NOT be able to prescribe these medications any longer; you will have to contact your physician for a new prescription.
The DEA has stated they are taking this action in an effort to curb the national problem with hydrocodone abuse. Unfortunately this is handled on a federal level and is completely out of our control. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask to speak with one of our pharmacists. Thank you for your understanding.
